It’s that time of year where influenza prevalence is starting to rise

Most experts believe that flu viruses spreads mainly by tiny droplets made when people sneeze, cough or talk.

  • Always cover your sneeze/cough with a tissue or placing your nose and mouth inside your elbow.
  • Always wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.

According to the Center for Disease Control, flu is a contagious respiratory virus caused by influenza viruses. The flu can cause mild to severe illness.

Symptoms can include:

  • fever or feeling feverish
  • chills
  • cough
  • runny/stuffy nose
  • sore throat
  • muscle or body aches
  • headache
  • tiredness
  •  some people may have vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children).

Getting a yearly flu vaccine is the best way to prevent flu and its potentially serious complications.

  • Flu vaccines are available at your primary care doctor’s office, local pharmacy, and health department.
