Attention Seniors - Congratulations, your last day at HHS is near. On your last day, Monday, May 13, we have some very exciting events planned for you. You will participate in a decision day assembly, a tour of our elementary, middle, and high school in cap and gown. We will have a catered picnic lunch at Kollen Park (the Dome if rain), and a final assembly counting down your last few seconds at Holland High. However, to participate in the tour of the elementaries and the picnic we need you to fill out a permission slip. These are available in the Student Success Office and are due by Friday, May 10. Student Senate: Any student interested in joining Student Senate next year needs to fill out the interest form sent to you from Mr. Telgenhof via email this week. The form gives detailed information about Senate and what would be expected of you should you choose to run for one of the elected positions. This first step  must be completed before you can move on to a meeting with the advisors and eventually get your name on the ballot. The form needs to be filled out by Friday, May 10 at 2:55pm. Staff vs. Student Disc Golf Scramble: Do you enjoy being active and outdoors?  Do you enjoy hanging out with friends?  Do you play disc golf already, or are you looking for an opportunity to try it out?  If you answered yes to any of the above questions, come join us after the first half day of exams on Friday, May 31st for the Staff vs. Student Disc Golf Scramble! Interested students should form teams of 2 to compete against their teachers in a battle of physical prowess and intellect, commonly known as Disc Golf.  We have over 100 discs available through our HHS Disc Golf Library and your entry is free, all you need to do is find a teammate and let us take care of the rest. Each team will play from the best disc between you and your partner, so choose your teammates wisely!  There will be prizes for the longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the basket as well as our top finishers for both divisions (White 9 and the Red 9 Hole Layouts).  Click here to sign up using the Google Form today! 

Power Rangers Volleyball: For any senior or junior who is interested in playing Power Rangers; practice will be held on Wednesday, May 1st right after school and will go until 3:00. Seniors will be in the dome and juniors will be in the auxiliary gym. The game will be held May 5th at 7:30 in the Dome. Permission slips are in the athletic office and can be turned into the athletic office, as well. Permission slips must be turned in before the practice. 

Class of 2024 Senior All-Night Party (SANP): Tickets to the May 21 All-Night Party are available for purchase through Monday, May 13. Ticket price is $20 per student with sponsorship funds available for students who need assistance. Schedule for the event is below.

TUESDAY, MAY 21 - FOLLOWING COMMENCEMENT 

9-9:45 PM: Check in for the SANP at HHS (front entrance) and board buses.

10 PM: Depart HHS for event venue in Grand Rapids.

11PM - 4 AM: Enjoy great food, special entertainment, prizes, and a variety of activities as you celebrate your high school graduation!

4:15 AM: Board busses to return to Holland High School.

5:15-5:30 AM: Arrival back in Holland.

The SANP will be fully chaperoned by parents and other volunteers.

All attendees must complete and return an Event Waiver prior to the party. Waivers can be picked up and returned to Ms. Davenport in the SSO. She also has the Venmo QR code for ticket purchases and can now accept cash payments. Seniors 18 and older can sign their own waivers, but those under 18 will need to have a parent or guardian sign.

Men's Golf: The Dutch finished in a tie for 3rd place at Lincoln Golf club.  Holland was lead by Preston Logan with a low score of 39.  Followed by Andrew Legg and Oscar Miller who both shot 43.

Women's Track and Field: Holland beat Union 98-21 and lost to Mona Shores 59-77 on a warm windy afternoon at iconic Houseman Field. Burning the track for the final time with 2 individual first places was SENIOR  Madalyn Daniels in the 100m (12.80)RQ and the 200m (26.49)PR/RQ.  Abby Wilson in the 1600m (6:20.70)   Amiyah Guy in the 400m (1:13.14)PR.  Alba Rodriguez-Lima in the 100m hurdles (17.95)RQ, 300m Hurdles (54.11) and High jump(4-8). Miriam Lopez-Koolhaas in the Pole Vault (7-0). Kaylie Clark in the Long Jump (13-5). The 4x100m Relay team of Miona Rodgers, Kaylie Clark, Makayla Clark, and Madalyn Daniels (53.21).  The 4x200 Relay team of Amiyah Guy, Amari Copado, Niema Elizalde and Miona Rodgers (2:05.82).  The 4x400 Relay team of Madalyn Daniels, Amari Copado, Yulissa Lopez-Pimentel and Cherlande Stout (4:50.31) Taking second place was Miona Rodgers in the 100m (13.19)PR/RQ, and the 200m (27.15)PR/RQ. Niema Elizalde in the 400m (1:13.49). Harper Schoon-Tanis in the 800m (2:59.54) and the 1600m (7:06.75).  Miriam Lopez-Koolhaas in the 100m hurdles (18.34) and 300m Hurdles (56.25).  Heaven Hicks in the Shot Put (23-10). Makayla Clark in the Discus (68-2)   Yulissa Lopez-Pimentel in the Long Jump (12-11). Third-place finishers were Kaylie Clark in the 100m (13.93) and the 200m (28.88)PR. Cherie Stout in the 400m (1:17.93). Karina Martinez in the 800m (3:30.71). Ruby Van Huis in the 100m Hurdles (20.92). Amari Copado in the  300m Hurdles (1:03.18)PR. Makayla Clark in the Shot Put (23-5). Cherlande in the Long Jump (11-9). The Lady Dutch are now 4-3 in Conference competition. They are headed to West Ottawa on Saturday for the Von Ins Invite. Come cheer them on to kick off your Tulip Time Week.

Men's Track and Field: The Holland boys proved to be too much for the Red Hawks of Grand Rapids Union this afternoon.  The Dutch claimed 13 first place finishes in the meet out of 17 events. Junior, Harper Prutch, led the team with two individual first places and two first place relay races, earning 12.5 points on the day.  Senior, Noah Lambers, took first place in two events  and earned 10 points for the Dutch. Here is a list of Holland's first place winners: Lambers - 800m, 1600m, Prutch - 400m, 110m hurdles, Ian Chavis - 200m, Ethan Mercado - 300m hurdles, Michael French - Long Jump, Elijah Jackson - Discus, Willem Evenson - Pole Vault, and Avonte Burchett - High Jump. The relay team of Alessandro Castillo, Josh Villa, Nazario Estrada, and Rian Powers placed first in the 3200m relay race.  The 1600m relay of Prutch, Chavis, Jamonte Rodgers, and Powers also took first place.  The 800m relay race was won by Prutch, Mercado, A. French, and Emerson Wolbink. 2nd place finishers were: Michael French - 200m, Rian Powers - 1600m, Avonte Burchett - 110m Hurdles, Alex French - 300m hurdles, Avonte Burchett - Long Jump, Seth Rodriguez - Discus, Elijah Jackson - Shot Put, Angel Cortez - Pole Vault, and Philip Maatman - High Jump. 3rd place finishers: Jamonte Rodgers - 100m, Xander Esparza - 200m, Alessandro Castillo - 400m, Henry Mulder - 800m, Harrison Kooyer - 1600m, Josh Villa - 3200m, Alex French - 110m Hurdles, Pole Vault, Estrada - 300m Hurdles, and Chavis - Long Jump, High Jump. The Dutch finish their regular season 3-4 and will prepare for the conference meet at Wyoming High School.  

The Holland Boys Track team fought hard, but came up just short against Mona Shores.  Noah Lambers led the Dutch, scoring 10 points with two first place finishes in the 1600m and 800m races. Others scoring for Holland were: Harper Prutch (9.25 pts) - 1st place in 400m, 2nd place in 300 Hurdles, 1st place 1600m Relay, Josh Villa (6.25 pts) - 1st place in 3200m, 1st place 3200m Relay, Willem Evenson (5 pts) - 1st place in Pole Vault, Avonte Burchett (5 pts) - 2nd place in High Jump, 3rd place in 110m Hurdles, 3rd place in Long Jump, Rian Powers (4.25 pts) - 1st place 1600m Relay, 2nd place in 1600m, Ethan Mercado (3 pts) - 2nd place in 300m Hurdles, Michael French (3 pts) - 2nd place in Long Jump, Angel Cortez (3 pts) - 2nd place in Pole Vault, Ian Chavis (2.25 pts) - 1st place in 1600m Relay, 3rd place in 200m, Harrison Kooyer (2.25 pts) - 1st place 3200m Relay, 3rd place 1600m, Alessandro Castillo (2.25 pts) - 1st place 3200m Relay, 3rd place 400m, Alex French (2 pts) - 3rd place in 300m Hurdles, 3rd place in Pole Vault, Elijah Jackson (2 pts) - 3rd place in Shot Put, 3rd place in Discus, Nazario Estrada (1.25 pts) - 1st place in 3200m Relay, Jamonte Rodgers (1.25 pts) - 1st place in 1600m Relay, and Philip Maatman (1 pt) - 3rd place in High Jump.

Women's Tennis: On Wednesday afternoon, the Holland High Varsity Tennis Team defeated Grand Rapids Union, 7-1. Holland swept the doubles matches and won three out of four singles matches. The win caps off a perfect regular season (6-0) in OK Green Conference play for the Dutch. Holland is now 10-3-1 on the year. "We are pleased with today's result, but know we still have a lot of work to do," said Holland coach Kyle Kreps. The Dutch will head to Byron Center on Saturday to take on the Bulldogs and St. Joseph.

Forfend is used in contexts relating to some kind of real or pretended danger or other unpleasantness. In humorous and ironic use, forfend typically appears in the phrase “heaven forfend,” and, like “heaven forbid,” expresses a usually ironic desire that something not happen or be done. In general use, if you forfend something unwanted or undesirable, you ward it off or prevent it; and if you forfend yourself from or against something, you protect or preserve yourself from it.

Heaven forfend that people actually pick up dictionaries and read them!
