HHS Highlights (Grades, Attendance, School Policies/Laws, Calendar)
Winter & 2nd Semester are here!
Please continue reading to review 1st Semester Grades Data, Second Semester Attendance Highlights & Pro Tips, and School Policies/Laws that were reviewed with students last week. Also, you are welcome to open and use the attached 2nd Semester Calendar.
GRADES
1st Semester Grades resulted in 271 students achieving Honor Roll (3.5 GPA* or higher)! This is an increase from 254 last year! Those students will be contacted and invited to an Honor Roll recognition party.
*GPA stands for Grade Point Average. A student’s grade in each class is converted to a point value (A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, E = 0), then all points are averaged. All students should aim to improve their GPA this semester.
2 Pro Tips: First, download and access the Parent Portal app on your phone for easy access and alerts to missing assignments. Second, Set a daily routine for your teen to do school work in a distraction-free location.
ATTENDANCE
Power H, the Power of being HERE. If you want to be successful in school, attendance matters!
We are running a new “On Time Challenge” this semester. Each week, students who are here and on time to all classes earn their grade one point. After Week 1 (last week), the 11th Graders have a slight lead with 179 points. We are also recognizing 5 randomly selected Perfect Attenders each week. Our Week 1 winners were awarded Tuesday.
2 Pro Tips: First, download and use the Remind app on your phone to communicate any needed absences by messaging “HHS Attendance Office.” Second, set a regular sleep schedule with no technology in the sleep space.
POLICIES & LAWS
School procedures and policies were reviewed in classrooms on Monday last week. For example, we are a “No Cell, Bell to Bell” school. This means students may not access/use phones in class without staff permission and class learning purpose. Therefore, if you need to contact your child during school/class, please contact the office. You can access all of the policies in THIS SLIDESHOW.
State Laws at School were reviewed on Thursday in a virtual assembly. Assistant Principal Josh Rumpsa and HHS School Resource Officer Nicole Hamberg reviewed laws prohibiting Harassment, Physical Violence, Drugs, and Vandalism. School expectations and police consequences were explained and accessible in THIS SLIDESHOW. Please contact an administrator or ask to speak with Officer Hamberg for more information.
