Semester 2- 21F (Online) & Test Out

Preparations for semester 2 are in progress. Requests/applications for dual enrollment, independent/online courses (21F) and Test Out for semester 2 are due by December 1. This message includes information and links for all of these opportunities.

Online 21F Course:

21F Online Learning provides students the opportunity to select the online learning platform as a means of engaging in content area coursework for students who can learn and pace themselves independently. Due to the uniqueness of the online learning program, certain standards and behaviors are expected of students, parents and students are expected to complete the online readiness questionnaire together as part of this google form,  HPS 21F Online Learning Course Request 24-25

Test Out:

“Test Out” provides students with the opportunity to "test-out", meaning demonstration of proficiency of high school course content. Test Out for Credit 24'25 is form developed to help you through the process and register for the assessment to "test out."

1. In order to receive "test-out" credit in the selected course, the student must achieve a minimum grade of C+ (77%) on the "test-out" assessment developed by the content area department.

2.The "test-out" qualification may include a final examination and/or a portfolio, written papers, projects, and/or presentations.

3. Credit earned is signified by a "CR" on transcripts and will not affect grade point average (GPA). Successful completion of "test-out" requirements closes the option of enrolling and/or obtaining credit in a lower course in the same subject sequence. Students will have only one opportunity to "test-out" of a specific course.

4.Test-out request form via google must be submitted by Dec. 1, and assessments will be given online using Odysseyware in the afternoon of Dec. 19.

Dual Enrollment:

Dual Enrollment is designed to provide qualified students the opportunity to pursue courses beyond what is offered through the high school which align with their college and career goal area. Both the student and the course need to qualify for dual enrollment as follows:

Qualification:

  • Student Eligibility: Students can qualify with scores from specified scores on SAT, ACT, PLAN, or PSAT. Table available with qualifying scores at Michigan Department of Education website. Michigan Minimum Dual Enrollment Qualifying Scores

  • Course Eligibility: HPS participates in the Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act (PSEO) and, therefore, provides payment per the per pupil spending allowance up to $762.50 (2024-25 PSEO amount) for each class/school hour. (Eligible courses are those not offered at the high school, are generally core courses or specific career prep, not areas of craft, hobby, recreation, theology, religion).

  • If the course is not eligible for PSEO, the student may still be able to take the course if their test scores meet eligibility requirements, however, the student/family would need to cover the cost of the course.

Students must apply first through their high school for eligibility (Due Dec. 1), then apply through the college or university for admission and course registration.

Steps required through HHS for potential Dual Enrollment:

  1. Determine if you qualify with your test scores which can be found on your College Board account and compare them with the Michigan Minimum Dual Enrollment Qualifying Scores. Determine if the course you would like to take is eligible. (see above)

  2. Discuss with parent/guardian: Prospective Dual Enrollment Letter. The letter must be signed by parent and student and is due Dec. 1. Letter Dual Enrollment Considerations 2024-25 .

  3. Submit signed Letter Dual Enrollment Considerations above and HHS Dual Enrollment Permission to Mrs. Hemmeke in the Student Success Office by Dec. 1. She will meet with you to help you consider courses that interest you and align with your college/career plans, how the college course could potentially fit with your HHS schedule, and the steps needed to enroll in the college dual enrollment program.

If you have any questions about your credits and/or whether any of these opportunities may be a good fit for you, please contact your counselor.
