Jefferson September News

Dear Jefferson Families,

Welcome to September! Our Jefferson students have ROCKED the first few weeks of school!

This week students will begin visiting the Power H Store to spend the Power H tickets that they have earned. Our Jefferson Power H Store is a fun way for our kiddos to get rewarded for following our school-wide POWER expectations. POWER stands for PrideOwn Your ActionsWise ChoicesEngaged, and Respect. See below for information about how to help support the Power H Store.

This year our bus loading and unloading zone is at the very front of the building. Please do not park along the front of the building in order to keep it clear for buses. Also, adults who approach our bus loading/unloading zone will be sent to the office to wait for their child(ren). Please help keep our Jefferson students safe during drop-off and pick-up times by reviewing the procedures below! Thank you for your help and support!

As always, please contact our administrative team with any questions or concerns!

Warmly,

Sara Folkert, Principal

Jennifer Heinritz, Assistant Principal

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

Thank you for reviewing the procedures below. As a reminder, there is No Parking in the crosswalk in the parking lot. Also, please yield to students and adults who need to cross via the crosswalk by stopping your car and waiting for them to safely cross.

Morning Drop-off

  • Morning Drop-Off begins at 8:15 AM for all students

  • If your child needs to arrive prior to this time, then please check out our Books and Games Morning Program (which kids love!!)

  • Pull your vehicle all of the way forward to the curve by the playground gate to unload your student(s).

  • After your student(s) has exited your vehicle, please pull forward, out of the way, so that the next car may unload.

  • Students should enter through the playground gate. Please do not send your student(s) to the office.

  • Students may only be dropped at the curb by the playground. Students may not be dropped off in the outer lane of the parking lot, on the street, or in the front of the building.

  • Parking is NOT allowed curbside!  Please park in the parking lot if you need to stay longer or get out of your car with your child. This will help keep traffic moving!

  • TK-5th grade students should not be dropped off on the VanRaalte Avenue side of the building.

Afternoon Pick Up

  • Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten students should be picked up at the West doors on VanRaalte Avenue, Door #13.

  • Siblings of TK and Kindergarten students will also picked up at door #13.

  • 1st - 5th graders will be picked up in the parking lot.

  • There is a “drive” lane and a “pick-up” lane. Students may only be picked up at the curb, not in the “drive” lane.

  • No parking in the pick up or drive lanes.  We are trying to keep traffic moving quickly and safely for everyone.

  • Please do not motion students across the traffic lanes to the parking lot, or motion students into the traffic lanes to get into your vehicle.  We want to keep our students safe!

  • You may park in the parking lot and walk-up to the building to get your student.

  • Please do not motion students to cross 31st Street to get into your car. This is very dangerous.

  • Please follow the procedures to help ensure the safety of all. Thanks!!

Late Student Arrivals and Parent Pick-up

If your student is arriving at school after the start of the day, 8:30 AM, then he/she/they must be signed into the office by an adult. Please do not send your child into the building unaccompanied.

Our school day ends at 3:36 PM. Please pick your child(ren) up promptly at the end of the day. Our office and administrative staff often have other obligations, and we cannot guarantee that there will be supervision.

Food Service

Breakfast and lunch are again free for all students. Our school lunch menu is linked on the HPS website. Students who bring home lunch are encouraged to bring a beverage such as a juice box, milk box or water bottle. To purchase milk by itself is 75 cents.

Homecoming

It’s football season and Homecoming is coming up quickly!!! Jefferson will be celebrating homecoming with a fun Spirit Week September 23-27! We will also be taking part in a fun Homecoming parade on Friday, September 27. The parade will go from Centennial Park to the football stadium. We would love for Jefferson students to help us march!! Watch for more Homecoming details to come!!

Power H Store

We would love volunteers to help run our Jefferson Power H Store. The store is open to students on Friday afternoons from 1:15 - 3:15 PM. Please contact Mrs. Heinritz, jheinrit@hollandpublicschools.org, if you are interested in helping out!! Just like volunteers, we are always looking for donations of fun items for the store.
