Notes from the Nurse With flu season right around the corner this year, keeping sick children home from school is more important than ever. While prevention is the key, there may be times when your child does become ill with the flu. In order to protect the health of other students and school staff, children who are sick should not attend school. Students who are sick should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicines. Thanks for your help in keeping our school as healthy as possible.
All School Popcorn Sale Fundraiser –On Friday Nov. 22 our All School Popcorn Sale Fundraiser will begin. This year the entire sale will be done virtually. You will be able to go online to order what you need for the Holiday Season. You will also be able to share the link with friends and family so they can order and it will be delivered to their homes. Your child will bring home an information packet explaining how it works, so look for it in their backpack on Nov. 22. The money raised from this sale will help support field trips and other school related needs for our kids here at Holland Heights. The official sale will run for two weeks, but you can order up to Dec. 13 and still get it delivered to you by Christmas. We want to make this as easy as possible for your child to sell and support our school. The school receives 50% from each sale!!! The classroom that sells the most items will also earn a Reward TBD!!!
PBIS Update Thank you so much for all the parents who took the time to complete our School Climate Survey this Fall. A few celebrations to share: * Our overall score increased to 3.70 (from 3.66) indicating that parents feel positively about the school climate here at Heights * School Safety, Teaching and Learning were ranked the very high at 3.76 out of all of the categories Our 3rd-5th grade students also took the Fall School Climate Survey: * My School has clear rules for behavior was the highest at 3.8. Parental Involvement is always an area where we can improve. If you are available to serve on our POWER Partners committee to support positive behavior at Heights we would love to have your support! Contact Meghan Kelly at mkelly@hollandpublicschools.org or at 616-494-2746 to volunteer 30 minutes a month on a Friday morning from 9:15-9:45 am.
Winter Reminders As we near the cold winter season, it is very important that we make sure our children are coming to school with the appropriate clothing. We will be going outside during the school day, so please be sure to have your child dressed for the weather. A winter jacket, gloves/ mittens, hat, and boots should be worn to school each day. Your child can bring a pair of shoes to wear during class time in their backpack or they can leave them here at school in their locker or by their hook. We do have a few donated winter weather clothing items, so let us know if there is something we can help you out with.
Attendance Update Holland Heights has 87% of their students attending school regularly. Our goal is to keep this percentage above 85%. Attending school everyday is important. Early education lays the groundwork for future academic success. Regular attendance helps children grasp essential concepts in reading, math, and other subjects. Please work with us and have your students attend school everyday so we can help them be successful!
