Trustee Linda Falstad Resigns from Board of Education

Notification of Board Vacancy

Please join Holland Public Schools in thanking Board of Education Secretary Linda Falstad for her service to the students and families of the City of Holland.

Falstad resigned from her seat on the Board of Education on Monday.

It has been a pleasure to be part of a growing, vibrant public school district for nearly eight years. I have and always will be a supporter of public education. [am a product of public education from K-18. Being a member of the Holland Board of Education is part of being a lifelong learner.

I look forward to working as a grandmother and private citizen with the Board of Education and Holland Public Schools as together we “embrace, engage, educate and empower each student for success in an ever-changing world.”

Falstad says she will focus her time and advocacy on the needs and education of her four grandchildren.


Due to the early announcement of term expiration, the Holland Public Schools Board of Education is seeking a candidate to fill the board seat of Linda Falstad. The newly appointed Trustee will serve from the date of appointment, anticipated to be August 26, 2024, through the certification of the general election on November 3, 2026.

TIMELINE

Letters of Intent are due to the HPS District Administration Building by 4:00 p.m. on August 19, 2024. 

Candidate interviews are scheduled for August 26, 2024, at a Special Board of Education meeting at the District Administration Building

The Appointment to fill this vacancy may be made following the interviews.

Letter of Intent Guidelines

Please provide the following:

  1. Submit a letter of intent with your full name, physical address and contact information. The lettershould express your interest in filling the vacant seat.
  2. Attest that you are a registered voter and live within the boundary of Holland Public Schools. If youneed information about the district boundary, please contact the Superintendent’s Office at616.494.2005.
  3. Please answer the following questions in your letter:
    • Why do you want to be a School Board member?
    • What skills and abilities do you have that would serve you and the District well in yourservice as trustee?
    • Student achievement and closing the achievement gap is a primary focus for school trustees.Please share your thoughts and ideas to continue the work already established in the district, and new ideas for increasing student performance for all students.
    • What prior experiences have you had as a trustee serving on a non-profit board?
    • Describe your ability to fulfill this term through the general election to be held on November 3, 2026.

The appointee will serve through the certification of the general election on November 3, 2026. The candidate may run in the general election for the remainder of the term through December 31, 2028.
