Seeing the Great Things Happening at HPS.
Holland Public Schools recently hosted visits from Dr. Corinne Edwards, Director of the MDE Office of Educational Supports and members of The Educational Fund Council.
Superintendent Cassidy gave Dr. Edwards a facilities-tour on Tuesday and discussed optimizing Grant Funding from the State.
Let me congratulate you and your staff for putting kids first, not just in word but in action. The intentional, purposeful, and equitable affirmation of your students’ ability to soar are on full display in the design, preparation, and implementation of services and supports that are available and accessible for students and parents. Additionally, it is encouraging for the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) to know that your K-6 teachers are making literacy a priority; and, that your administrators are supporting them in learning about the science of reading and in implementing researched-based literacy instruction in each of your elementary schools. I look forward to hearing (and seeing) more of your district’s continued growth and development.
Again, thank you so much for the opportunity to visit and get to know the Holland community. Truly, you just can’t hide that “Dutch” pride! Best wishes for a continued positive and productive school year. -Dr. Edwards
The Educational Fund Council is an advisory body to our Board of Education to exercise advisory authority over funds donated to OAISD by private parties for specific purposes. The requests range from magnifiers to van requests, all to support the needs of the students (dependent on the requested fund). They visited West Elementary on Thursday, April 25 to learn about Holland Public Schools Deaf and Hard of Hearing Programs and services for the Blind/Visually Impaired.
