Women's Track and Field: On a beautiful Saturday at West Catholic, the girls track team placed 2nd in the Green division at the Bob Misner Invite with 114.5 points. The trophy is on display in the Athletic Office. Helping to win that trophy by fighting for first place and a gold medal were Makayla Clark in the Shot put (29-7), Tessa Nienhuis in the 800m (2:26.76), Saniya Harshaw in the 200m (28.70), and Johanna Mulder in the 3200m (11:27.83), setting a new meet record. Way to go! Medaling in 2nd place was Ashlyn DePoy in the 1600m (6:00.23), Claire Smith in the High Jump (4-3), the 4x100 Relay team of Makayla Clark, Nilma Garcia, Avionna Harris, and Saniya Harshaw (55.60), the 4x400m relay team of Eisele Prutch, Harper Schoon-Tanis, Claire Smith, and Ashlyn DePoy (4:44.61). Taking 3rd place and medaling was Saniya Harshaw in the 100m (13.49), Amari Copado in the Long Jump (13-9.75), Tessa Nienhuis in the Pole Vault (8-0), and the 4x200m Relay team of Ano Mangwiro, Claire Smith, Avionna Harris, and Saniya Harshaw (1:58.79). 4th place medal winners were: Claire Smith in the Long Jump (12-8), Harper Schoon-Tanis in the 800m (2:47.04), Amari Copado in the 300 hurdles (56.98), and Lauren Rosales in the 100m hurdles (19.94).
Softball: The Holland Varsity Softball team hosted the Wyoming Lee Rebels in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday. Ryliegh Luna pitched strongly in the first game, giving up 3 earned runs through 5 innings, taking the loss for the Dutch. Addyson Hill took the ball in game 2, picking up the win, throwing a complete game, winning 8-7. She gave up 2 earned runs while adding 2 hits in the win. "We didn't play well in the first game, providing most of the runs for Lee in that game. We were in a position to make plays but fell short. However, that changed in game 2, and we were extremely proud of the way our girls responded. We faced their ace in game 2 and hit her around. Put a ton of pressure on their defense and never quit", said coach Hill. With the win, Holland's record moves to 1-6 on the season, but the season looks promising moving forward. Holland will be back in action this Saturday as they host their annual 8-team tournament at Matt Urban Sports Complex. Play begins at 10 am on all 4 fields.
Women's Soccer: On Saturday, Holland Soccer tied South Haven 1-1 and defeated Orchardview 4-0. In the first match, Holland conceded a goal to South Haven in the second half, but Dee Rumpsa converted to ensure the tie. In the second match, Holland beat Orcherview 4-0. In the first half, Dee Rumpsa scored from a beautiful corner kick from Leah Margaron and Oliva Weiss scored on a clever slotted ball from Megan Smith. In the second half, Bella Campos scored from distance, and Oliva Bernal got a pass from Campos to finish the scoring. Goalie Yasmin Angulo earned the shutout. "We played well," said Holland coach Greg Ceithaml. "It was a beautiful day for soccer, and I am happy for our girls. It has been a challenging season, and it was great to see the team celebrate some success." Holland is now 1-7-2.

Word of the Day
A boondoggle is an expensive and wasteful project usually paid for with public money. Boondoggle is also a word for a braided cord worn by Boy Scouts as a neckerchief slide, hatband, or ornament.
Critics say the dam is a complete boondoggle—over budget, behind schedule, and unnecessary.
