Essential Standards

Essential standards are the most important things we want students to learn in each grade and subject. These are the skills and knowledge that will help them succeed now and in the future. Our teachers have worked together to decide what matters most for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, so we can focus on teaching these key ideas really well.

By focusing on these essential standards, we can better answer four important questions about learning:

  • What do we want students to learn?
  • How will we know when they learned it?
  • What do we do when they don't learn it right away?
  • What do we do when they do learn it?

These questions guide how we teach, how we check for understanding, and how we support each student—whether they need extra help or are ready to move ahead. This way, every child gets what they need to grow and succeed.
