Information
be nice. Soccer Game: May is mental health awareness month. Show your support by attending the varsity girls soccer be nice. awareness game tomorrow at 6:45! The game is home and be nice will be giving away prizes!
Boys' Volleyball: For any boys who are interested in a potential boys' volleyball team for next spring, there will be a brief meeting right after school next Wednesday, May 22 in the Dome. We would like to get an idea of the number of students who are interested and if we would have enough to start boys volleyball as a sport at Holland High School.
Staff vs. Student Disc Golf Scramble: Do you enjoy being active and outdoors? Do you enjoy hanging out with friends? Do you play disc golf already, or are you looking for an opportunity to try it out? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, come join us after the first half day of exams on Friday, May 31st for the Staff vs. Student Disc Golf Scramble! Interested students should form teams of 2 to compete against their teachers in a battle of physical prowess and intellect, commonly known as Disc Golf. We have over 100 discs available through our HHS Disc Golf Library and your entry is free, all you need to do is find a teammate and let us take care of the rest. Each team will play from the best disc between you and your partner, so choose your teammates wisely! There will be prizes for the longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the basket as well as our top finishers for both divisions (White 9 and the Red 9 Hole Layouts). Click here to sign up using the Google Form today!
Sports News
Women's Soccer: In the third round of the OK Green Tournament, Holland traveled to Grand Rapids Union and came away with a 4-4 tie. After the Red Hawks opened with a goal, Dee Rumpsa got a through ball from Emma Margaron to tie the score. After halftime, new varsity forward Lesly Garcia scored two goals to push the lead to 3-1. Unfortunately, the Dutch could not hold the lead, and Union scored three straight goals to take the lead. In the last two minutes of the game, Lesly Garcia won a ball in the box and scored preserving the 4-4 tie. "The game was a high-scoring affair," said Holland coach Greg Ceithaml. "Union battle hard, and I was happy with the way our team fought. Losing a 3-1 lead was difficult mentally. It was great to see the team respond so intensely." Holland is now 4-7-4. In JV action, the Holland JV fell to Union 2-0.
Softball: The Holland Varsity Softball team traveled to South Christian to take on the Sailors. Both teams displayed great pitching and defensive efforts in a pitcher's dual. With little offense, it came down to who would score last. With both teams tied at 1 run a piece going into the 4th inning, Holland scored 2 runs to take a 3-1 lead. With a 2 run lead in the bottom of the 7th inning, Holland was unable to hold the Sailors from scoring which led to South Christian taking the victory 4-3. Holland coach Rick Harris said, "It was a fun game to coach and watch. Both teams played great defense and hit the ball well. I wish all games could go this way, win or lose. Although we fell short of the dub today, we know we played a great team and we got better. We'll use the next two weeks of the regular season to continue to improve and prepare for the state tournament." Holland will travel to Ottawa Hills this Saturday for the Ottawa Hills Tournament.
Women's Track and Field: On warm cloudy Thursday afternoon and evening in Fremont, the girls' track team took an amazing 4th place at the D2 Regional Meet with 54 points. Many athletes got PR’s on a competitive track, here are the Regional medal winners. Two girls claimed an individual second place medal and assured themselves of a trip to the State Meet in Hamilton. They are Madalyn Daniels in the 200m Dash (26.36)PR/SQ and Alba Rodriguez in the High Jump (5-1) PR/SQ. They are going to the State Meet because they are REGIONAL runner-ups. AWESOME! Alba Rodriguez-Lima took 3rd in the 100M Hurdles (16.31)SQ and Miona Rodgers took home an individual 4th place medal in the 200m (26.72)PR/SQ. Those times punched their tickets to the STATE Meet also. Congratulations Alba and Miona! Additional medal winners and point getters were: Madalyn Daniels took 3rd in the 100m dash(12.97). Medaling for 4th place and kicking it in the 4x100m Relay team of Miona Rodgers, Kaylie Clark, Makayla Clark and Madalyn Daniels (51.96)PR. Johanna Mulder took 4th in the 1600m (5:30.93) and 7th in the 800m (2:32.96). Miona Rodgers also medaled for 5th place in the 100m (13.30). Medaling for 6th place was the 4x200m Relay team of Amiyah Guy, Kaylie Clark, Miriam Lopez-Koolhaas and Miona Rodgers (1:53.76). Alba Rodriguez-Lima in the 300 hurdles took 7th place (51.44). Miriam Lopez-Koolhaas took 8th place in the 100 hurdles (17.76). Madalyn, Alba and Miona will represent HHS at the State Meet at Hamilton High School on June 1.
Men's Track and Field: Noah Lambers continued his stellar season by qualifying for the state meet in the 1600m and 3200m races. Lambers placed 2nd in the 1600m (4:23.15), automatically qualifying for the state finals by place and time. Lambers also qualified in the 3200m (9:43.52) and placed 4th in the event. Willem Evenson will also be competing at the State Finals in the Pole Vault. Before today, Evenson's best vault was still 2 inches short of the automatic qualifying height. But this senior's hard work paid off at the right time. Willem cleared the automatic qualifying height of 12' 8" on his first attempt. He followed that up with huge vaults clearing 13' 0", 13' 3", and 13' 6". When the event ended, Willem Evenson walked away as the Regional Champion in the pole vault. Although only Lambers and Evenson qualified for state, several teammates hit PRs as their season came to a close. Every Holland relay team ran their best times of the season today. Scoring and top finishers for the Dutch are: 13.5 Points - Noah Lambers (1600m - 2nd place, 3200m - 4th place, 1600m relay 7th place), 10 points - Willem Evenson (Pole Vault Champion), 8.75 points - Harper Prutch (400m - 6th place, 110m Hurdles - 5th place, 800m relay - 4th place, 1600m relay - 7th place), 3 points - Usher Laurencio (100m - 6th place), 2.75 points - Ian Chavis ( 400m - 8th place, 800m relay - 4th place, 1600m relay - 7th place), 1.25 points - Jamonte Rodgers (800m relay - 4th place), 1.25 point - Michael French (800m relay - 4th place), 1 point - Rian Powers (1600m relay - 7th place, 3200m relay - 7th place), 1 point - Avonte Burchett (Long Jump - 8th place), .5 points - Henry Mulder (3200m relay - 7th place), .5 points - Harrison Kooyer (3200m relay - 7th place), and .5 points - Alessandro Castillo ( 3200m relay - 7th place).
